Scary Truth samples
OVERVIEW: At some point in their lives, almost
everybody has told or heard a scary story.
Scary truth was written as a Halloween drama. A group of teens meet up
for a spooky night telling stories in an old cemetery. A young youth minister
who had just moved into the old farmhouse near the cemetery makes a surprise
visit. The story he tells gets all the kids spooked, especially when he informs
them that his story is true. In fact, his story is biblical. He uses the
occasion of Halloween to emphasize his message. The drama is drawn from The
Rapture in the Book of Revelations. You will laugh until you encounter the Scary
Truth.

Sample – Talking about where they will go for Halloween
(Scene opens in the hall at school. The school day has
just ended and a group of teenagers is standing together talking).
Kelley: What is so scary about telling ghost stories?
Matt: It is not what, but where.
Kelley: Where?
Matt: Midnight,
Saturday in the cemetery behind old man Larson’s old farmhouse.
Jill: There is a cemetery behind that house?
Trent: Yeah, but you can’t see it from the road. It is in the woods.
Meagon: Does anyone live in the house?
Trent: I don’t think so. It has been for rent since old man Larson died, but I don’t think anyone has ever moved in.
Meagon: I don’t know… this whole thing sounds a little bit too creepy for me.
Sample – Telling ghost stories in the cemetery
(Scene opens
after dark in front of a large tombstone in old man Larson’s cemetery. The kids
are sitting around for the night of story telling. They are dressed in costume
as they had discussed earlier. Gordon is in his Batman costume. Trent is
finishing up his “haunted” hunting story.)
Trent: When he got back to the hunting camp he found his jacket. The same jacket that was missing in the morning, but both sleeves were missing.
Rita: …and the scary part is?
Trent: You know the sleeves were the same as…
Jill: I think you misunderstood, Trent these are supposed to be “horror” stories not “horrible” stories.
Trent: You guys don’t get it do you?
Rita: Oh we get it… but my report card was scarier.
Sample – The new youth minister joins the group
Adam: (Rising up from behind the tombstone with a flashlight in his face in an attempt to scare all of them). THE CLAW!
(Everyone panics and screams because they do not
know who he is or where he came from. In the pandemonium he is able to calm
them all down and assure them that he is no threat).
Matt: Who are you?
Adam: My name is Adam. Adam Archer. I am the new youth minister at the Church.
Greg: What are you doing here?
Adam: I am renting the old Larson place and I saw all of you walking back here. I came to see what was going on.
Gordon: The Larson place? Didn’t anyone tell you it is haunted?
Adam: I haven’t run into any ghosts yet, caped crusader, but I will keep my out for them.
Angela: How come there have not been any lights on in the house?
Sample – The youth minister tells his own Halloween story with a message
Adam: I thought that was the whole idea. Besides, that whole Claw story never really happened. That story was already old when I was a kid.
Angela: (To Jerry) they say it is true, Jerry?
Adam: I DO have a true story for you guys though. If you think you want to hear it.
Meagan: It can’t be any worse on my heart than popping out from behind a tombstone.
Adam: Sharon was a nice looking girl and even more beautiful on the inside. A faithful, church going Christian she was usually pretty careful about who she hung around with, which is why she probably should not have been where she was.
Leslie: Where was she?
Adam: She was out on a date with Roger and let’s just say Roger was not her type.
Adam: “If you don’t turn around right now, I am getting out and walking” she said.
“Out here…in the dark, by yourself. No way.”
As she opened the door of the car to get out, she told him
“I am more scared of you than I am of the dark” then she slammed the door shut and started to run back up the dirt road.
Kelley: That is insane.
Sample – the message
is delivered
(The kids look around themselves realizing
that they are in a cemetery just like the one Adam is describing).
Meagan: This is getting too weird.
Adam: Then suddenly beneath him, Roger feels the ground start to tremble. He rolls out of the way just as the ground erupts and the body EXPLODES up out of the grave and rises into the night sky.
Then off a little ways to his right another moan and the smell of fresh earth as two more bodies explode out of their graves; hands raised and disappearing into the sky.
Meagon: Adam, please stop. This is really scaring me.
Adam: Some of you may have. This story, although based on truth has not happened yet.
Jake: What do you mean “YET.”
Adam: My story is based upon an event recorded in the Bible, in the Book of Revelation. The event is the Rapture.
Adam: It could be tonight. It could be anytime. The Bible says it will come like a thief in the night. Two people will be side by side in bed, one will vanish and the other left behind.
Greg: And what is so bad about being left behind?
Adam: Everything. That is why Sharon’s face was filled with pity for Roger. The worst years the world has ever known will follow and ultimately those left behind will die for Christ or spend eternity in hell.
Greg: Are you just telling us this to scare us into your religion?
(Some in the group echo Greg’s feelings).
Adam: I am telling you this because I do not want someone to look pitifully into your eyes one day, as they raise their hands to meet the Savior in the sky. I am telling you this so you will not be left behind.
I am telling you the SCARY TRUTH.
