Passion Play Audition samples

Overview: “The Audition” is performed prior to tryouts for the Passion Play”. It’s a humorous promotion skit to get the congregation enthused about performing the upcoming production.

Sample – text

PAT: Ric!

RIC:  Hi, Pat. How are you…(Pat interrupts).

PAT: Good. Look, we need to talk about this passion play.

RIC:  O.K., Why don’t we…(Pat interrupts again).

PAT: It is already August and we have not even had our first auditions yet. I’m trying to make a practice schedule and we don’t even have a cast. (Pat has worked himself into a fever pitch). We need to get moving on these auditions or I am afraid…

RIC:  Whoa, whoa big guy. Calm down. That’s so unlike you. I have already started spreading the word about auditions. In fact, I got a call yesterday from a lady who wants to come by here and get some information this morning.

PAT:  That is great! I never doubted you for a minute. So, who is this lady that …(interrupted)

BULA: YOOOHOOOO! YOOOHOOO! I’m here.

(Pat and Ric both have an obviously stunned look. Ric, tries his best to smooth this entrance over, even though he does not even know Bula’s name.)

RIC: Her name is (He turns to Bula for a little help).

BULA:  Bula

RIC: Bula

BULA: (Speaking over Ric’s shoulder) Mae

RIC:  (He does not turn away from Pat) Bula Mae.

PAT: Miss Corn. Do you…

BULA:  You can call me Bula Mae. (She smiles a real big toothy smile) 

PAT: (Speaking sarcastically to Ric) Pretty smile.

(To Bula Mae) Bula Mae, I am wondering where in this production we can best utilize your… your…

BULA: Talent?

PAT: Yes, thank you, your talent.

BULA:  Well, honestly, Mr. Director, I’ve never done any real acting before, but I heard this was one of them passion plays and I have read plum near every one of them lovey dovey books at the drugstore (pause and primp) so , I thought maybe I could be the leading lady.

RIC:  Wrong passion Bula.
