The Message of      Fruit Stand

There are not many treats more delicious and satisfying than Good fresh fruit, and not many things more disappointing than bad or rotten fruit.  The same can be said of the Fruits of the Spirit.  The fruit you bear is the product of your relationship with Christ.  What would the Inspector find if He came to check the quality of produce at your Fruit Stand?

Sample scene setup and text of manuscript:

SCENE:  A fruit stand is located center stage.  A ‘CLOSED” sign is hanging in front of the stand.  There is a tall stand of corn at stage rear left.  Hidden from view, behind the corn, is a scarecrow.  Behind the fruit stand are some additional bushel baskets of fruit.

(Fruit stand owner, Mr. Hank, enters from stage right closely followed by his new helper, Sonflower.  As they are walking, Sonflower is swinging wildly at flies with her fly swatter.  She is not paying attention to anything else.  Suddenly, Mr. Hank stops in front of his fruit stand and places his hands on his hips, proudly examining his establishment.  Sonflower, unaware Mr. Hank has stopped walking, runs into his back knocking off Mr. Hank’s straw hat.)

(excerpted text)

SONFLOWER:  Oops, Sorry!!!
(Attempts to steady Mr. Hank, brush off his clothes and replace his straw hat.)

MR. HANK:  STOP IT, give me my hat!!!

(As Mr. Hank carefully readjusts his hat upon his head, Sonflower once again becomes distracted by the flies.)

MR. HANK:  (After some work at getting his hat perfectly adjusted):  There we go!

SONFLOWER:  (Swings at a fly and once again knocks the hat off Mr. Hank’s head.)
Oops, sorry again.
(She snatches the hat from him.)
Let me fix that for you.

Mr. Hank:  (Very disturbed, snatches the hat back from Sonflower, and this time just plops it back down on his head.)
Leave it alone. . . . now quit chasing flies and bugs and help me get ready for business.
